  • Leave bandage on for at least two hours after being tattooed. Bandages may be left on overnight or longer if instructed by artist.

  • Wash hands with an unscented antibacterial soap before handling your tattoo.

  • Rinse your tattoo with warm water and a small amount of a mild unscented soap such as an unscented Dr. Broner’s or Dial. Do not use bar soap. Pat tattoo dry with a clean paper towel.

  • Apply a thin layer of an unscented lotion (Lubriderm) to moisturize tattoo twice daily for the next two weeks.

WHAT NOT TO DO

  • Avoid heavy sweating in and around tattoo area during the next week.

  • Avoid direct sunlight. If sun exposure is unavoidable, use a high level SPF sunscreen on tattoo.

  • Do not use a tanning bed for at least one month after being tattooed.

  • Do not soak in any waters (lakes, oceans, swimming pools, bathtubs) for at least one month after being tattooed.

  • Do not pick or scratch at tattoo at any time during the healing process. This can lead to scarring and infection.

  • Do not re-bandage tattoo

  • Keep any pets and animals away from the tattoo during the healing process. Make sure to wash your hands with an antibacterial soap after touching animals and before touching tattoo area.

YOUR TATTOO IS A HEALING WOUND AND SHOULD BE TREATED AS SUCH

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Your tattoo and the surrounding area may be slightly swollen and red for the next week.

  • Ink may seep to the surface. (It’s ok to wipe this off with a clean paper towel and reapply ointment.)

  • A thin scab should form evenly over the tattoo and peel similar to a sunburn. Do not pick at the scab!

  • Color in the tattoo may seem dull or uneven while healing. Shading may fade up to 40% during the healing process. Your tattoo should be done healing after one month.
